World Human Rights Day

Written by Costas Georgiades. Posted in Costas Georgiades

Goodmorning everyone :)

So as the human rights day is approaching me and some peers decided to start a small initiative regarding Human Rights. This year we will be doing workshops, seminars and having people and activists who are actively involved in this topic visit schools across the island of Cyprus. We will try to make the youth aware of what those rights are and make them understand the importance of them in societies and peoples life.

That is for now!

Take care.

Post Summit reflections-The way forward.,.,

Goodmorning Everyone,

Nearly 2 months after the summit i find my self thinking what is it that i can do more to make this world better. What is it with that inspiration that OYW has offered me i can do better or ingite. Looking at so many projects and initiatives taken up by my fellow ambassadors makes me feel a more complete person as well as honored to be partt of them.

And now coming back to my reality living on an island that for 37 years has been divided after the illegal occupation of more than 37% of the territory of the island and living in a country with the last divided capital of the world, i see it as a responsibility to act and change this situation. And the only people who can show the way forward to peace and prosperity for all the people who live on the island is us YOUTH. And right now it is probably the greatest challenge  us youth face on the island. My personal perspective is the problem does not only have to do with politics but with everyone of us, humanity itself, and the willingness of us to solve this problem,.,

I am now looking with some fellow youth from my organisation and not only to start a initiative in order to give VOICE to the youth of this island in the ongoing negotiations to solve the problem.  I find youth voice as one of the biggest tools missing from the negotiations in order to solve the problem.

Having the chance i would like to thank Desmond Tutu for his great commitment in bringing peace to the island through The Elders group who have been working since 2008 with Cypriot Youth in producing a documentary about the problem.

Have a great day everyone.

The Summit.,.,.,(PART 2)

Written by Costas Georgiades. Posted in Costas Georgiades

Hello everyone,

And now it’s time to talk about the summit it self. 14 days ago 1200 delegates from 170 countries gathered. And i had the honour and privliege to attent the summit thanks to the sponsorship from MTN. Once again given the chance thank you MTN. The summit was spot on. Inspiring more than anything in this world! The energy that came out was fantastic. To meet and hear people that have left their footprint in this world and are respected by virtually everyone made it extra special. Bob Geldof, Oscar Morales, Desmond TUtu and all the other counsellors with their presence made it even more inspiring. To hear the speeches of the returning ambassadors and what they have done but also fellow delegates gave an extra push to start ACTION. And here I am now back in Cyprus with the doors wide open to bring peace to an island that has been divided for 37 years. To re-unite the island and make it a place where people can come here and learn how to “create” peace.
I stand for transforming this world, making it better. The older generation has not failed. What it has done, is that it has run out of ideas and new perspectives that it why our generation is so important to this world.

I would like to use this chance to thank a very special person, whom without her efforts many delegates would have not made it there. Catherine thank you very much.
It is am honour and a privilege to have met you!

The spark of the beginning of the journey.,.,.,(PART 1)

Hello Everyone,

I am back again! Sorry for being away. Coming back from such a great event to join in the military again is a hard transition.
So with this blog i will try to describe how this wonderful journey started. I saw a lot of videos and heard a lot about this great event from friends that had participated in the first summit. I thought that i should give it a go. To really be honest i never thought such a dream would come true. And there it was just 3 days when my national guard service started i got this number from South Africa on screen calling. I found it a bit weird.! I answered the- a womans voice was asking if it was me. “You have been selected to be sponsored by MTN but you have to reply to the email by tomorrow morning.” she said.  For a second i froze. I told my self it can’t be true. It took me a while to understand that i was actually going to attend the ONE YOUNG WORLD SUMMIT in Zurich. It was one of the greatest feelings someone could have on earth. Being between the best of the best youth but also leaders from around the world was now a reality. I did everything possible to get to have internet access and replied to that email. Ever since then till the summit, my participation was the driving force to inspire me to become better and better by day. Motivation level high.!

I want to thank and appreciate MTN for giving me the opportunity to be there amongst the THE greatest. Thank you!

This is for now. Now it is time to return to my base. See you guys on monday!!

I will share about the summit!

take care!
